The "Woomb" cave

Местните наричат мястото Тангардък Кая – в превод Кънтящ камък. Наименованието идва от впечатляващото звуково ехо, особено трептене вътре в пещерата.

The results of archeological and astronomical research show that this cave sanctuary can be associated with the Thracian cult of the Great Goddess – Mother. In the cave, once a year, a ray of sunlight penetrates deep into the depths and reaches an altar, symbolizing the sacred marriage between the Earth and the Sun. The shape of the cave, reminiscent of a female reproductive organ, symbolizes the womb of the goddess. The cult honors the so-called hierogamy – the sacred marriage between the Mother Goddess and her son – the Sun God, who must ensure the cycle of the seasons and the fertility of the earth.

The sanctuary also served the ancients to determine the length of the year, its beginning and end, with sufficient accuracy.

A mandatory condition for this route is that the climb to the "Womb" cave is early in the morning, that you wear comfortable shoes and that you bring water. There are signs indicating the direction, but you have to leave the car on the side of the road and the last part of the route is covered on foot along a beautiful wide forest path - it takes about 1 hour, but it can be longer if you stop at the gazebos on the side of the path.
